Welcome to RockWood earth lodge

CENTRAL DRAKENSBERG - Fully Self-Catering

Situated in the Champagne Valley, just past The Drakensberg Boys Choir, one finds this private and unique getaway home. As you meander down the driveway, you realize it’s a rare find indeed, and pat yourself on the back. In front of you appears an uninterrupted view of Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peaks & Dragons back and you feel humbled by your smallness in comparison. Dragons back gets its name from the outline of the peaks and escarpment that combine to resemble the profile of a sleeping giant.

The original farm house has been lovingly restored over four years by the Rockwood Fella, to give you a sense of complete one with nature. It takes you back to the colonial times in this uKhahlamba World Heritage site when animals roamed free and tribal people beat out their daily existence, and wars were an eventuality to claim pieces of this splendor. Reed buck and Duiker take their refuge in the surrounding indigenous garden in the whispering of the winds through the grass. As night tucks everything away, a million billion stars appear high above you winking sleep tight, you are safe.

Dear Theresa & Mountain man (Wayne)

It has taken me too long to write my review.

Unfortunately the pen for your guest book was missing on the day we left, but I'm back at work now and would like to make use of the opportunity to tell you of our stay. First of all, Theresa, thank you so much for making me feel secure with regards to our booking, even if I was paying it off in drips and drabs. It meant so much to me, I sincerely appreciate your kindness.

Upon arrival Theresa was such a darling, I felt right at home by just talking to her on the telephone.

Our excitement when we saw “The Rock” was something that should’ve been recorded. Oh wow, what an absolutely astonishing place, the view, the pool, the surrounds!! My jaw dropped. The gardens were neatly kept and the unit itself was painstakingly clean. To whoever oversees the upkeep, cheers to a job exceptionally well done!

We had the pleasure of meeting dearest Mountain man (as we baptised him)! Dear Wayne, thank you so very much for making our stay even more special by visiting and having dinner with us. It was a lovely extra and a visit we won’t easily forget. We often talk about you with our friends!

Myself and Lielies hope to see you soon! Keep up the beautiful work you do at the Lodge. These are one of those places people will be coming back to.

Lots of love
